Illustrated Lydia Davis Stories
In searching the internet for more Lydia Davis, I found illustrated versions of three of her stories: Odd Behavior, How Difficult, and In a House Besieged. Each one is illustrated by a different artist, in different styles, and they're really interesting. They reminded me a lot of what we're doing with our journals, and maybe they can serve as inspiration for our own work!
I don't really have much else to say about these, just wanted to share so people could check them out :)
Very cool to see these interpreted as illustrations! "In a House Beseiged" reminded me immediately of the Frost poems we discussed, especially "The Hill Wife." I think there are several common elements.
ReplyDelete". . . there in the middle of the country in a house besieged" for me really echoes the image Frost gave us of a small, isolated cottage up against a vast, unknowable wild outside.
"The woman wanted to go home, but she was already home . . ." Yikes! No comfort where there should be, and no escape, either. We also see that Davis's woman, like the hill wife, is stuck there with a partner whose sense of what they're experiencing is very different from hers.
These are tremendous--thank you, Grace, I'd missed them. (Natalie, I hear you on the connection between Frost and Davis...)
